Uzbekistan | Kol Ami Jewish Congregation & Bukhara Jewish Community Center

From the Crossroads of the West to the Crossroads of the East, Jewish communities–one relatively new and the other ancient–come together to provide programs for children of youth.

The Stirling Foundation partnered with Utah’s Kol Ami Jewish Congregation to renovate facilities, fund community programs, and upgrade computers for the Bukhara Jewish Community Center. Dating back to the Babylonian exile 2,500+ years ago, Bukhara’s Jewish community is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited Jewish communities and is a source of pride in Uzbekistan’s vibrant multicultural heritage. With its long-standing place in Bukharan society, the Jewish Community Center offers children and youth programs, such as soccer, English, music, and art classes, to Bukharans regardless of religion or ethnicity, creating opportunities for Jewish, Muslim, and Christian children to learn, create, and play together, as they have done for thousands of years. This project follows a similar engagement between Utah’s Kol Ami and the equally historic Jewish community in Quba, Azerbaijan.
