Resilient Vocation and Marine Conservation
ODAK | Turkey
Aligning economic opportunity with environmental stewardship
The Stirling Foundation partnered with ODAK in Karataş, Türkiye to support women’s economic opportunity while advancing marine conservation along the Mediterranean coast. The initiative trained 450 women to produce fishing nets and transform discarded “ghost nets” recovered from the sea into marketable, upcycled products. Working in coordination with local recovery organizations and cooperative networks that secure buyers, the project creates sustainable income opportunities while helping remove harmful debris from marine ecosystems. By linking environmental restoration with community enterprise, the initiative supports both coastal resilience and long-term economic stability.
